A LITTLE RESPECT / Erasure Cover by Piano & Whisky

As Depeche Mode fans would know, the original members were Vince Clarke, Martin Gore, Dave Gahan and Andy Fletcher. Vince was the main songwriter and was friends with Andy, and that's how it all started.

After a successful first album "Speak and Spell", and probably producing a few more songs for the 2nd album "A Broken Frame", Vince left the group and later formed successful acts Yazoo and Erasure. At least among people I knew, Depeche Mode fans were "automagically" fans of Yazoo and Erasure at this time. But while Martin and Alan took Depeche Mode down the dark path of the new wave, Vince Clarke was continually progressive in his melodic synth pop wizardry.

「A Little Respect」was a major hit for Erasure in 1988, probably the biggest ? Combined with Andy Bell's powerful voice and high note-hitting falsetto, the duo went on to create many big pop hits in the 80's.

One of the earliest songs that sang openly about respect for queer love, but it could well be applied to all relationships, above race, religion and culture without discrimination. I did a quick jam of this 1988 hit song on the acoustic guitar and keyboards one Saturday night, and had to transpose it to A, down from C major in order to hit Andy Bell's high notes. 😆
