BEHIND THE WHEEL / Depeche Mode Full Cover by Piano & Whisky

From the 1987 album, 「 MUSIC FOR THE MASSES 」was Depeche Mode's sixth and as far as I recall their first Platinum album in the U.S.. This was followed by a successful tour in the U.S. and now-famous 101 live album recorded at Pasadena, California. 「 MUSIC FOR THE MASSES 」was probably my third favorite album by Depeche Mode, i.e. after 「 BLACK CELEBRATION 」and 「VIOLATOR」. But it has so many great songs and marked the beginning of the "rock-style" sound with Martin Gore's guitar riffs. Alan Wilder's wizardry in Emulator-based sampling was again apparent throughout the entire production. As Depeche Mode fan, I arranged and recorded the backing track for 「 BEHIND THE WHEEL 」 in 1993/4, and have always enjoyed performing it. I've now recorded guitars, vocals, back vocals and did the final mix for this cover in 2020. I already owned the 7" vinyl single, as well as cassette and CD albums back in the 80/90's and later acquired the 2007 re-release on vinyl.

昭和の洋楽カバー続けてって！ドイツのバンドCAMOUFLAGE (カモフラージュ)1987年の名曲「 THE GREAT COMMANDMENT 」ひとりで弾いてみた！歌っていた！♬ Another cover for Camouflage. The German band were big fans of Depeche Mode as much as I was, and I became an instant fan of their music in the 1980's. I participated in a singing contest in 1990 and performed this song. A backing track was going to be made on a synthesizer and Texture (one of the first computer-based midi sequencers ever made) but it never got finished, so I sang to a minus-one tape and got 2nd place. I've actually completed a full backing track for 「 LOVE IS A SHIELD 」 in the following years, and wanted to perform it for another contest but alas, it never happened. Now you can listen to the finished recording I made this year using the backing track from 1992. Coming back to 「 THE GREAT COMMANDMENT 」 - 30 years on, I retrieved the old backing track from an old backup tape which only had like 12-bars completed for the opening riff. I recorded this song in DOS ~ LOVE IS A SHIELD / Camouflage

Camouflage was a German new wave band that I liked very much in the 1980s. They've recorded this song "Love is a Shield" in 1989 as part of the "Methods of Silence" album, after a very successful "Voices and Images" debut in 1987. この曲のアレンジは1992/93年くらいで完成でした✨でもボーカルやギターを録音したことはありません🤔 今、28年後、いよいよ完成です。🤣 I arranged and recorded the MIDI parts of this track in 1992/93 on Voyetra Sequencer PLUS GOLD (SPG) 4.02, a DOS-based program that I heavily depended on for all my MIDI arrangement between 1989 and 1995. As far as I recall, I've arranged the song originally for a band contest that never happened for reasons I cannot remember anymore. Nevertheless, I've been wanting to record a cover of this song back then but never did so until today.
